Speaker 1:

There’s a new FDA-approved vision correction procedure for people who have poor distance vision and want to get rid of their glasses or contact lenses. Malik visited Brinton Vision to learn more about EVO.

Dr. Jason Brinton:

Hi, I’m Dr. Jason Brinton. I’m an eye surgeon at Brinton Vision in St. Louis and I perform LASIK and vision correction surgery.

Malik:

At Brinton Vision, Jason Brinton has been performing a new vision correction procedure called EVO.

Dr. Jason Brinton:

We are so excited to offer EVO to our St. Louis patients. EVO is the newest FDA-approved vision correction procedure for patients with blurry vision.

Malik:

This is for people who have blurry vision and want to get rid of glasses and contacts.

Dr. Jason Brinton:

EVO is advanced and proven. It’s safe, it’s trusted, and has been available worldwide, but only now has been FDA approved and available here in the United States. In fact, Brinton Vision was one of the very first practices in the United States to perform this procedure, and we’ve seen unprecedented interest, not just here in the St. Louis area but across the country over the past month.

Malik:

Brinton has seen patients from the East Coast all the way to the West Coast wanting to take on this new procedure.

Dr. Jason Brinton:

In fact our very first patient was from Portland, Oregon, who flew out here. He is a LASIK surgeon himself and had me perform EVO surgery on his eyes. What’s really exciting about his surgery is within a few hours after, he told me that he was comfortable, he would have been comfortable doing his own eye surgeries on other patients right after the surgery.

Dr. Jason Brinton:

We also had a local St. Louis area eye doctor who sells glasses and contacts and brought about a dozen of his eye doctor friends to have ICL performed. After his procedure, the eye doctors wanted to locate his eyes, so we took him into our first exam lane here and one of the doctors made the bold decision to flip the switch and turn on our eye chart and put him on the spot, so no pressure, right? Less than 60 seconds after the eye surgery, all of your eye doctors there, let’s see how you can perform, right? Well to our amazement, he rattled off the 20/20 line and he read 20/20 less than 60 seconds after his procedure. Where just minutes before, he had been 20/200, which means that he could barely see the wall in front of his face.

Malik:

Brinton says the advantages to this procedure is it gives clearer and sharper vision and accomplishes his correction without altering the natural surfaces of the cornea, so there’s no tissue removed, and for additional peace of mind, it’s removable.

Dr. Jason Brinton:

The procedure itself takes about 30 minutes. I perform it here at Brinton Vision inside our office. We just use numbing drops to numb the eyes. After the procedure, you go home with your eyes open, and you can go back to work the next day. I explain to patients that EVO is a permanent contact lens. Unlike a traditional contact lens where you have to put it in and take it out each day, with EVO, I take the permanent contact lens and gently place it beneath the surface of the eye, where you can’t see it, you can’t feel it, it can stay there permanently and provide lasting vision correction.

Malik:

EVO patients are said to be some of the happiest patients and it’s becoming an unprecedented demand for it.
