SMILE

Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE or ReLex SMILE) is a single step and minimally invasive version of laser vision correction. With the little disruption of the natural state of the cornea, SMILE has less inflammation and reduces or eliminates dryness of the eye after the procedure. Because SMILE uses only a single laser and has a faster treatment time with more comfort, some refer to SMILE as the next generation of LASIK alternatives.

ICL

Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) is a removable microlens implant typically performed on patients with moderate to high nearsightedness and/or those with thinner corneas. The microlens is in sync with the body’s natural chemistry and is comprised primarily of collagen and water. It is an additional lens placed gently behind the iris (or colored part of your eye) and is not noticeable without a microscope. Because ICL does not remove any tissue and has a large treatment range, it allows patients that have been told they are not a candidate for laser vision correction in the past to now gain visual freedom. The lens requires no maintenance and can remain in the eye for the patient’s lifetime.

Inlays

At Brinton Vision, we offer multiple Lasik alternatives including corneal inlay options to our patients over 40 who want to improve their reading vision. Inlays are an incredible advancement in refractive surgery technology that has the potential to eliminate the need for reading glasses. In some cases they allow us to give a longer lasting option than we could before.

Raindrop Near Vision Inlay is a microscopic lens about the size of a pinhead and thinner than a human hair that rests under the surface of the eye. Correcting your reading vision by gently changing the shape of the cornea, the Raindrop Inlay is approximately 80% water making it in sync with your natural body chemistry. For more information go to Raindrop

Kamra inlay is a mini-ring with a small pinhole in the center that rests beneath the surface of the eye. Being extremely thin and smaller than the average contact lens, the KAMRA inlay uses its donut-like design to block out unfocused light while still allowing focused light to enter the eye.

At Brinton Vision, we offer a customized Inlay experience that will be tailored at your Brinton Vision Ocular Analysis, where Dr. Brinton will provide a personalized recommendation to help best meet your vision goals.

RLE

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is an increasingly popular LASIK alternative for patients over 50 suffering from Dysfunctional Lens Syndrome (DLS). DLS is the natural aging of the eye’s inner lens causing a decrease in visual clarity and an increase in difficulty reading up close. During the RLE procedure, the aging lens is replaced with a new lens that typically gives patients the ability to see up close and far away with both eyes. RLE is a permanent solution because the lens that ages in the eye is no longer present. This prevents the vision loss associated with cataract development and means the patient will no longer require cataract surgery later in life. As long as the eye remains healthy, we expect long-term visual freedom.
