Dr. Wira was born in Chicago, Illinois. His parents moved from Poland to the United States making him the first in his family born in the United States. At 11 his family decided to move back to Poland, where he attended school. After high school he decided to move back to Chicago and remained there for most of his adult life.
Eye care seemed the natural decision when he remembered the moment his parents noticed he had trouble seeing objects far away, which prompted his first eye exam. “I clearly recall the moment I put on my first pair of glasses and how happy I was with my vision.” From that moment he knew that he wanted to assist people in a meaningful way. His natural interest in science and the ability to have such a huge impact on the lives of so many people is what drove him to pursue a career in eye care.
Dr. Wira attended Harper Community College then Northeastern Illinois University graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He was accepted to three different optometry school programs and decided to attend UMSL College of Optometry 2015 – 2019. When it came time to select his Optometry program, St. Louis wowed him with their friendliness and clinical program.
While glasses and contacts do a great job correcting a person’s vision, corrective refractive surgery is the ultimate way people can have fantastic vision permanently. Having people see the best they ever have thanks to innovative technologies, such as EVO ICL’s, and knowing that they will now be able to wake up and know that is what their vision is going to be for the rest of their life is a great feeling.
Dr. Wira has been practicing general optometry for 4 years and look forward to what the future has to bring to eye care.
Dr. Wira enjoys a variety of outdoor activities with his family such as camping, swimming, and scuba diving. His wife Afsheen is an ICU nurse who shares his compassion for healthcare. She recently underwent ICL surgery with Dr. Brinton and is thrilled with her new vision. They’re both very busy raising their two daughters and ensuring they continue their passion for the wellbeing of others, whether it’s in or outside of healthcare
